Vivo Resorts is located on a beautiful 12 mile long sandy beach known as Playa Palmarito. But you may want to explore other beaches during your holiday. You can do that in nearby Puerto Escondido, from calm protected waters for swimming to big wave beaches for surfers, here you’ll find an amazing variety of beaches to discover & enjoy.
10 miles The city of Puerto Escondido is a wonderful place to explore. The shuttle service at the resort makes it easy to travel to and from and stop off in between. The main market is the cultural hub of the city, here you can find all the locally grown produce and fresh foods plus tourist souvenirs.
Must Do's:
Walk the beach strip on Zicatela Beach, great in the early morning to watch the surfers.
The night market on El Adoquin for an family friendly post-dinner stroll.
3 miles Laguna Manialtepec is a spectacular body of water regarded as one of Mexico’s most ecologically diverse lagoon systems. Manialtepec – “the place where water springs from the hills” is home to an astounding variety of bird life and is a wonderful place to enjoy an eco tour or photo expedition aboard a powerboat.
Kayak and Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP) rentals and tours are available. These are a peaceful and healthy way to explore the incredible beauty of Laguna Manialtepec.

5 miles The Sierra Madre del Sur mountain range is the backdrop to Puerto where you can explore a network of roads and trails that are perfect for Mountain Bike and Hiking adventures available through local tour providers. Also available through local tour operators are tours to waterfalls, hot springs and zipline adventures.

50-75 miles Enjoy a guided day trip for white water rafting or canyoning adventure, the rivers in this region of Mexico provide a whole new source of vacation fun that just isn’t possible in many other areas. 50-75 miles Take part in a high elevation excursion to tour a working coffee plantation (4000 ft elevation) and view rare species of birds in tropical evergreen, cloud forest and mixed pine-oak habitats. Professional Naturalist guide speaks English and Spanish.

Distance from Vivo Resorts: 10 miles Home to two International Sport Fishing tournaments each year, Puerto Escondido boasts some of the best fishing you’ll find anywhere. Depending on the season, anglers can expect to catch Dorado (Mahi-Mahi), Sailfish, Marlin, Roosterfish and more. Available year round: species specific fishing can be seasonal, inquire for details.
10 miles You don’t have to be an experienced surfer to enjoy the famous waves of Puerto Escondido. Here there are beginner, intermediate and expert surfing beaches with many qualified instructors to help you learn. No matter what your skill level, you can find some challenging waves in Puerto.
Body boarding / Boogie boarding is also very popular here, there are other beaches nearby that are better suited to the wave shape that boogie boarders prefer. Instruction is also available.
No matter how you like to play in the water, there are wave sports here to suit you!

This is a zipline experience unlike most others. Not only do you get to experience the thrill of zipping across a lush valley five times, but the 30 minute hike along a river through a tropical forest to a waterfall and swimming hole is how your adventure begins! Pack your swim suit! This tour is for the adventure seeker and is a true thrill!

Another way to enjoy the beauty of Oaxaca is on a mountain bike. There are rides in the Puerto area that range from beginner to advanced levels of difficulty. For those looking for a once in a lifetime adventure, there are multi-day trips from Oaxaca City to Puerto Escondido.
